Careers

We hire off the registers we run.

There is something absurd about a company that builds a verified talent corridor and then recruits the way everyone else does. So we do not. When we need a person, we look first at the people who have already met a published standard on one of our own platforms, and we say so openly because it is the point.

How we hire

A published standard, then a conversation.

Applications are read by a person. There is no keyword filter sitting between you and us, and nobody is screened out by an algorithm that has never built anything.

What we test is whether you can do the work, and then whether you can do it without supervision. Those are two different questions and most hiring processes only ask the first one.

We work remotely by default and across four countries, so the second question is not a preference. It is the job.

What we look for
TraitWhat it means here
Finishes thingsA build that is ninety percent done has helped nobody. We would rather see one thing shipped than five started.
Writes clearlyMost of our work is asynchronous and across borders. If you cannot write it down, it does not travel.
Reads the marketWe build for cattle traders, freelancers and training practitioners. Understanding them beats understanding frameworks.
Says what is brokenWe publish what our platforms have not checked. That habit starts internally, with people who raise problems early.
Works the corridorBotswana, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia. Comfort with all four, and with the fact that none of them work the same way.
Where the roles sit

Four kinds of work, all of it hands-on.

We are a small team running seven platforms, which means nobody here has a narrow job. These are the four shapes the work takes.

Engineering

Front end and platform work on static, offline-capable builds. Our stack is deliberately light: no heavy frameworks, no database where a file will do, and a hard rule that the thing must work on a bad connection. If you have only ever built for fast networks, this will be a different discipline.

Coordination

The person behind the register. Reading every post, running verification calls, and making the introduction on WhatsApp inside a business day. It is judgement work, not admin, and it is the part of the company customers actually meet.

Market building

Opening a corridor: finding the traders, the practitioners, the buyers, and getting them onto a board that has nothing on it yet. Unglamorous, and the single hardest thing we do.

Editorial and research

Turning what moves across the platforms into something worth reading. Sits between the group's publishing side and the data our own boards generate.

Internships and mentorship

Ten years of it, and it is not a programme we invented for a website.

The founder has mentored students for about a decade, averaging students from around ten different universities a year, drawn from across the countries the group reaches. Several of the people who now run parts of this business came through that.

If you are a student or a recent graduate and you want to work on something that real people use, write to us and say what you want to learn. That is the whole application.

Applying

There is no form, and that is deliberate.

Email the desk with what you have built, what you want to build, and where you are. Links beat attachments. One page beats five.

If you are looking for remote work outside the region rather than a role with us, CHITO is the platform for that and it is free to be listed.

Write to the desk Get listed on CHITO

If you can build it, coordinate it, or open a market, we want to hear from you.

We hire slowly and we hire people who finish things. Tell us what you have shipped.
